Our Christmas Families
JoAnne Pound has again agreed to head up the mission project of collecting and distributing gifts and food for 3 families for Christmas. JoAnne and Judy McDermit have prepared small Christmas trees with tags on them with items needed to give to the families. Take a tag or two off the tree, buy the gift, wrap it, and bring it back to the church by Sunday, December 16th. This will give JoAnne and her committee time to organize the gifts and purchase any last minute items that may be needed. The presents will be distributed to the families on Friday, December 21st.

This month's planned activities
Beginning December 2, the advent season begins. If you have ordered a poinsettia, you will need to have your form and money returned to the church by this date. The poinsettias will be delivered to the church on Saturday, Dec. 8th. Norma Hayes would appreciate volunteers coming in Sat. am to help unload the truck and place the poinsettias in the church. Also, she would appreciate help in watering the plants during the next few weeks that they are in the sanctuary. Just let Norma know.
On the third week of Advent, Dec. 16th, we will again have a praise service. Carol West will direct the drama and Al will lead the praise team. This service will include many carols.
On Dec. 23rd, our fourth week in the Advent season, we will not have Sunday school.
Christmas Eve services will again be held at 7:00 pm on Monday, Dec. 24th.
This service will be a service of special music and scripture readings. Pastor Aletta will explain the symbols that we have on our Chrismon tree that is located in the sanctuary.
On December 30th, Pastor Mike and Aletta will be on vacation and Rev. Ken Mansfield will deliver the message. Ken is a friend of Mike's and has been here several times. Be sure to come and make Ken welcomed to our congregation. Also, we will not have Sunday school this day as we will take down and put away the Christmas decorations right after our service. Come and help "hide" the decorations for next year.

Lots of parties and fun last month
The congregation met at Shirley and Ellsworth Everest on Sunday, Oct. 28th for the Everest Annual Fall Fest and Hayride. Everyone brought a dish and the Everest’ provided hot dogs, drinks, bonfire and hayride for over 40 people that evening. Everyone had a ball including Janet and Ron Buchholz who consented to become “mummies” – several people wrapped them in toilet paper to see who could make the most authentic looking mummy. Not sure who won because both Ron and Janet were completely covered. How many rolls of paper were used?
Go for it, Waneta!
Waneta Bishop wraps Ron Bucholz in toilet paper at the Everest Annual Fall Fest.
The following Sunday, we met at the church for another carry-in and annual Fall Auction. As usual, the food was great, the turn-out was very good and Dennis Polk and Bob Bishop outdid their selves in conducting the auction. Ken and Carolyn Davidson out bid everyone else and now will decorate their home with the red bull. [Janet Buchholz purchased the bull in Mexico and donated the bull for the first auction 6 years ago. Needless, to say it comes back each year, earns more money each year, and now has quite a history.] This year, the proceeds from the auction were $2787. One side note, there were a few people that had never attended an auction, had a lot of fun and didn’t understand one word that Dennis said.
The following Sunday, the Willows gave a program in the Sanctuary with a love offering of $167.00 that was given back to the church. A free soup supper was organized by Norma Fawley. Again, the evening was enjoyed by all that attended.

Noontime Volunteer
Reading Program
As many of you may know, Connie Watters replaced Sandy Allen as librarian at the Leesburg Elementary School. Connie has started a Noontime Volunteer Reading Program to assist students that need help in reading. This is a one-on-one relationship with an adult and a student. You will spend quality time with your student while they eat lunch. You read to them and they read to you. It is very important in a child's life to be read to and for them to read for pleasure. Many of these students don't have the opportunity to read to an adult on a daily basis. This program assists in building self esteem and confidence in these students. If you have some free time and would like to volunteer 1 hour a week from now until April, please contact Connie at: 574-453-4121 or - cwatters@warsaw.k12.in.us

A note from your secretary
I have begun to lock the church as I am in the building by myself for a couple of reasons. Most importantly, our front door will not stay closed when we have any wind to speak of. Therefore, it causes our furnace to kick on more than necessary, so in order to hopefully save some on the heating bill, I will keep the door locked unless I know that there is a planned meeting at the church. I also am locking the door because we have had several men come in asking for money for whatever and I am not equipped to help them with their request.

Special Angels at LUMC
Darcy Deeter and her sister-in-law, Jeanne Sands (Jerry's sister), began the huge job of painting the pantry. The pantry may be small, but it is very tall!. Judy McDermit and her daughter, Melanie Rooney, came in and finished the job. Judy also refinished the wall between the bathroom and the "coffee offset" in the Fellowship Hall.
Thanks, girls, for a job well done.
Some other angels cleaned out the pantry for the painting crews. Who ever you are, thanks!

Charge Conference
This year the charge conference will be held on Sunday, December 2 at North Webster UMC at 3:00 pm in a "cluster" of 10 area churches. The format will be more of a service and will not concentrate on "paper work". Everyone is welcomed to come to the charge conference. They will be using a power point presentation of pictures sent in by the various churches highlighting "their" church.

2008 Church Directory
The new directory is near publication. Again, there will be several copies of the directory that can be previewed and corrected before publication. They should be located in the narthex just before you enter the sanctuary next Sunday, Dec. 9th. Just mark in the book and I will try to make sure that all corrections are made. I would like to take the directory to the printer by the 12th of December so that they would be available for distribution on Sunday, December 23rd. Thank you for your help. Norma
