With the passing of Holy Week, we completed our Lenten journey. As you probably know, the purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer—through prayer, penitence, and self-denial—for the annual commemoration during Holy Week of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus, which recalls the events linked to the Passion of Christ and culminates in Easter, the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

A delicious carry-in breakfast followed the service which the Prisca Circle set up and cleaned up for us. Thank you to Charles and Norma Fawley for decorating the tables.
Pastor Mike, in his ministries, has followed the practices of the early church by performing the Sacrament of Baptism on Easter Sunday. So, in the Easter service at 9:30 am, Pastor Mike asked if there was anyone who would like to be baptized and Kailtain Smith [a young newcomer in our church] accepted Pastor Mike's invitation. Kailtain's family stood with her as Pastor Mike baptized Kailtain. Then Mike baptized Kylie Dishman and received Kylie, Jim Felts, Jim Rooney, and Mark Herring into the membership of LUMC.
On Easter Sunday, we began a new season in the church–Eastertide. [March 24—May 10, 2008] On Easter and the 50 days following Easter, the color changes to white celebrating the risen Lord. Therefore, the altar cloth and the choir robes will be white. This season ends with the Ascension of the Lord. In this season, Pastor Mike will read an Easter liturgy each Sunday followed by lighting a candle on the candelabra to celebrate the 50 days that Jesus was on earth before his ascension.
On April 6, 13 and 27, we will finish the last 3 sessions of Rob Webber's "Beginnings" series. On April 20, we will skip Rob Webber and, instead, do a Praise Sunday service. Norma Hayes is planning a surprise for this Sunday.
Oakwood, on the northwest shore of Lake Wawasee in northern Indiana, includes the 77-room Oakwood Inn and restaurant, program center, academy center, a chapel and 42 acres dominated by tall oak trees.
The North Indiana Conference Board of Trustees officially received the property on March 19 in accordance with Oakwood Foundation by-laws and the action of the 1993 North Indiana Conference session of the church, when the Oakwood Foundation took possession of the property.
In court documents, the Oakwood Foundation said it would complete its commitments to existing customers by continuing operations of the ministry through Labor Day of this year with financial assistance from the North Indiana Conference. The foundation will cease activities at Oakwood at the end of the day on Monday, Sept. 1. Individuals and groups who wish to visit and use the facilities need to make arrangements with Oakwood to do so before Labor Day.
The Trustees of the North Indiana Conference voted to receive the property, with the approval of Indiana Area Bishop Mike Coyner and Conference’s district superintendents acting between annual conference sessions as prescribed by church law. The Trustees also voted to sell the entire property. After the property is sold and all debts are paid, the Board of Trustees will bring a proposal for its approval to the North Indiana Conference about the use of any net proceeds.
Oakwood Park was founded in 1893 by the Evangelical Church, a predecessor denomination of The United Methodist Church.

The General Board of Discipleship has recommended to the General Conference a new official hymnal for United States United Methodists to replace the last hymnal published in 1989. At the present time, work on a four-year music and worship study fro the General Conference has been completed and the report can be seen online at www.gbod.org/worship/musicstudy The General Conference will consider the proposal when it meets Apr. 23-May 2 in Ft. Worth, TX.
Your Church at Church
Lori Everest has been working with the Oswego Pre-School personal and they have expressed their desire to use our facilities for their Pre-School starting in June. The agreement to use the church still has to be approved by the Trustee's and Church Council.
The Mother/Child Banquet date has been changed from May 10th to May 3rd. Please mark your calendar concerning this change.
In the early part of May, a clean-up day is going to be scheduled for both the outside and inside of the church. Please consider taking time to participate in this important activity.
At the last Polk Sale, we not only had help from our "regular" crew, but had help from friends also. Thank you Bee Wynkoop, Julie Smoker and her friend, Nicole Smoker and her friend and Andrew Lincoln. We at LUMC truly appreciate you time and help at the sale.
"This and That"
Please mark May 18 on your calendar as Pastor Mike is planning on honoring the graduates. If you know of some one graduating this spring, please notify Pastor Mike or the office.
I would like to have pictures from last year's Memorial Day parade to use in the power point on Memorial Day Sunday, May 25. I would also like to have pictures of veterans from our congregation to use as we honor our servicemen on that day.
I would also like to have pictures of Fellowship hours, Sunday school classes, and Tippy services. I would also like pictures of our special music guests during the summer.
Just a reminder: We still collect aluminum cans, prescription bottles, Campbell Labels for Education, and food for Our Father's House and CCC. We also collect soaps, shampoos, toothbrushes and toothpaste, etc. for Beeman Home. As you start spring cleaning, please consider what you could donate to the annual Sidewalk Sale in June.
Ron West and Jim Hearn spent part of a day at the church replacing the kitchen faucet. Great job, guys! We "gals" really appreciate your efforts.
We also offer our sympathies to the family of: Burt Niles who passed away on March 2, 2008.
